My pledge to you and the earth
Creating Incredible Knives, Protecting Our Incredible World.
Wood that I source is researched extensively to ensure the environment is impacted as minimally as possible. I pledge to not use any exotic, endangered or threatened species and when possible use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood.
This is a pledge many other blacksmiths and blade makers will not make.
Steel is one of the most common and versatile materials in the world. It is one of the few materials that can be 100% recycled. Where I can produce without sacrificing quality, I use reclaimed steel from a myriad of sources. In addition, by forging blades instead of grinding them from a steel bar, I use fewer materials and take advantage of the most fuel-efficient forge I've built to date.
Around 80% of leather worldwide is tanned using chrome, a highly toxic process that results in a significant toxic waste being released into waterways. This is why I use Veg Tan products, a method used to tan hides that utilizes organic materials, such as tree bark, instead of chemicals.
